¹ Gathering 29 (=pp.449 to [464]), the final gathering of the completed book, includes the Index, which Schenker has not done by this date. So S may be referring to what in the completed book is gathering 28 (=pp.433–48). OJ 9/31, [12], September 24, states that S has gatherings 22–29 in his hands. (Cf. diary entries for September 21 and 24.)
