1 i.e. Baron Alphons Rothschild, pupil of Schenker in the 1890s; S's principal patron, who had borne the printing and marketing costs of Harmonielehre ten days earlier (see OJ 1/5, p.27, November 22, and OJ 12/27, [1], November 26, esp. fn3.).

2 i.e. Kontrapunkt, to be published by Cotta, the costs of Part I of which Rothschild did in fact bear (OJ 9/31, [33] = CA 144, March 13, 1911; Federhofer, Nach Tagebüchern, p.23, n.43).
