XI. 19 [...] Jonas sagt ab, verstrikt sich aber in einen Widerspruch von Gründen: er könne das Honorar für die Stunden, die er selbst gibt, nicht erhöhen u. sei daher außerstande, meinen gesteigerten Anforderungen zu entsprechen. Anderseits: er habe Prüfungen u. Rigorosen1 vor sich die ihm eine Überbürdung nicht gestatten.2 Aber auch der Vater zwar könnte das Honorar bezahlen, sei aber dagegen, daß der Sohn gerade vor den Prüfungen so plage. © In the public domain. |
Diary entry by Schenker, dated November 30, 1919 November 30, [19]19 [...] Jonas withdraws, but is contradictory about the reasons: he cannot increase the tuition for the lessons that he himself gives, and is therefore unable to meet my increased demands. On the other hand: he is about to take examinations and orals,1 which do not permit him to become overloaded.2 His father, however, could also pay the tuition, but doesn’t want the son to have to slave so much over the examinations. © Translation John Rothgeb 2006. |
