STUTTGART, den 9. Oktober 1908.

Herrn
Dr. Heinrich Schenker
Wien.

Sehr geehrter Herr !

[ sign’d: ] H Kurtz

Dr. Heinrich Schenker
Vienna

Dear Sir,

We are in receipt of your est’d letter of the 8th inst,2 from which we gather that it is impossible for you on account of shortage of time to finish off the manuscript of Part II of Theories and Fantasies in the immediate future.

We have considered your suggestion that this Part II be split into two half-volumes and the two be released separately. Upon thinking it over, we have become convinced that to do this would be thoroughly detrimental to sales, and we would strenuously advise against it in the interests of the work, all the more so because there {verso} is no immediate hurry over the appearance of Part II since the work is not likely to be used to any great extent as a Christmas present, and in any case the prompt completion of even the first half[-volume] of Part II that we have in hand would, given the late date, already be seriously in doubt for the Christmas market this year.

We look forward keenly to your kind response, and remain,
With kind regards,
[ sign’d: ] H. Kurtz
