Herrn Dr. H. Schenker Wien III
Reisnergasse[ sic ] 38

Hochgeehrter Herr !

Most honored Sir,

We have so far still not received back from you any of galley-proofs 1–89 of vol. II of your book that we have been sending you in batches since the beginning of November, as a result of which the printers can, for lack of type, go no further with type-setting. We therefore ask you very kindly to send us back urgently as large as possible a proportion of the galleys corrected, so that the pages can be made up for gatherings of revised proofs, and after being checked can be printed off as a run of gatherings. {verso} With the type freed up in so doing, type-setting would then be resumed.2

Respectfully yours,
[ stamp: ] p.p. Heirs of J.G.Cotta’s Bookdealership [ near illeg. ]

Sender address: Stuttgart
Recipient address: Vienna III, Reisnergasse[ sic_ ] 38

FOOTNOTES:

1 Cotta’s carbon copy.

2 That is, the type-setters’ stocks of elements of metal type (individual letters) have run low, and only once the galley-proofs have been approved and pages made up as plates can the galleys be dismantled and the type-elements be reused for the next set of galley-proofs.

SUMMARY:
[ NMTP II = Kontrapunkt:] Corrected galley-proofs 1-89 urgently needed to as to free up type for further galleys.
