Handwritten letter from Elias to Schenker, dated June 17, 1934

Wien, 17/VI-34

Lieber Herr Doktor!

Ihrer dankbaren

Dear Doctor,

My most sincere congratulations for June 19!1 It pleases me to know that you are in lovely Bergwelt,2 where you and your dear wife will spend this anniversary, so significant for all the world, so much more {2} happily!

Again, a year has passed in which I was allowed to experience so much that was wonderful; and again, I can only come up with the modest phrase “thank you,” but from which your poet’s ear certainly detects all that is {3} not possible for me to express.

I hope that Böckstein3 is to your liking in every respect, and that you will soon entirely have overcome your exhaustion after the Herculean task of recent years through the peace and quiet that you were planning. {4} You have gotten your sugar level under control again, yes?4 I would be very grateful for a short message soon on a postcard.

Mama and my brother join in my congratulations and send their most sincere greetings.

Once again all the best to you and your dear wife from

Your grateful
[ sign’d: ] Angi Elias
