Typed letter from Hertzka (UE) to Schenker, dated January 7, 1909

[Universal Edition letterhead]
Wien, 7. Jänner 1909

Wohlgeboren [/] Herrn Professor Dr. Heinrich Schenker,
W i e n.
------------

Sehr geehrter Herr Professor !

in vorzüglicher Hochschätzung
Ihr ganz ergebener
[ sign’d:] Emil Hertzka

Professor Heinrich Schenker, Esq.,
V i e n n a.
------------

Dear Professor,

I got back the day before yesterday from a trip lasting several days, to find your valued letter1 waiting for me, of which I formally acknowledge receipt as also of the “Mahillon”2 and the two English letters3 that were enclosed.

On the matter of the Instrumentation Tables,4 we are clearly of one mind, although your valued letter does not say so in so many words; I hope we will still be able to discuss this with enthusiasm at some future time.

The affair of the Well-tempered Clavier|5 is, however, another matter. We must talk this through carefully and in detail someday.

I am off on Monday to Berlin and Leipzig and will be back again around January 21. After that I shall be here for a longer period of time, and we can then take the opportunity of having a thorough-going discussion of this matter.

In regaling you with a somewhat belated “Cheers for the New Year”, I remain

With kind regards,
Yours very truly,
[ sign’d:] Emil Hertzka
