Verehrter Herr Doktor!

Aus Ihrem gesch. Schreiben vom 9.d.M.¹ ersehe ich mit Vergnügen, dass Sie Ihren Zahnarzt schon hinter sich haben.

Leider erlaubt es mir meine Zeit nicht, auf den weiteren Inhalt Ihres ebenso interessanten als originellen Schreibens zurückzukommen. Ich möchte nur das eine feststellen, dass es mir nicht im Traum einfiel Sie zu mir zu bitten, um von Ihnen irgend eine Aenderung Ihrer letzten Arbeit² zu erlangen sondern lediglich, weil ich mit Ihnen einiges besprechen wollte,was den Stich, die Anordnung u.dergl. betreffen sollte, nachdem mir manches, was wir seinerzeit besprochen haben nicht ganz praktisch vorkam.

Da aber die ganze Sache eigentlich keine so weitgehende Bedeutung hat, so werde ich Ihre Bearbeitung³ mit meinen Dispositionen versehen in die Druckerei befördern lassen und hoffe, dass es mir gelingen wird, über die xxx nicht geringen technischen Herausgabeschwierigkeiten hinwegzukommen.

Honored Doctor,

I see with pleasure from your est’d letter of the 9th inst¹ that you have the dentist out of the way.

Sadly, time does not permit my going into the further content of your letter, interesting and original as it is. I should like just to make one thing plain: it never remotely occurred to me to ask you to visit me in order to coerce you into making a change of any sort in your previous piece of work,² but rather because I wanted to discuss with you a few things relating to the engraving, the organization, and such like, since a number of things that we had discussed some time ago seemed to me to be impracticable.

However, since the whole issue is really of no great significance, I will forward your arrangement³ to the printers accompanied by my instructions, and hope that I will succeed in overcoming the not inconsiderable technical publication difficulties.
