Sehr geehrter Herr Professor !

Professor Heinrich Schenker, Esq.,

---------------

Dear Professor,

Many thanks for your suggestions concerning the Well-tempered Clavier.1 Nevertheless, I do not believe that I will have to turn to either Max Reger,2 or to Wolfrum,3 or even to Professor Mandyczewski.4 You see, I am so eternally optimistic as to think that we will be still able to reach agreement on this topic.

Too overburdened as I am with work prior to my trip to respond to your interesting letter in any detail, I shall defer a thorough-going discussion with you until immediately after my return, and shall do everything in my power to rid you of your pessimism regarding Universal Edition.5

In the meantime, I send you my warmest greetings,

With kind regards, Yours truly,
[ sign’d: ] Emil Hertzka
