Geehrter, lieber Herr Dr. Jonas!1

Gulden. Wir sollen ihm auch Geld-Mäzene sein! Von uns Beiden

Herzlichstes
Ihr

Dear Dr. Jonas,1

Since Vrieslander|2 goes on vacation on the 15th of the month, it would be very nice if the press would present him with a copy3 by that date; he somehow hinted at that when he was with me yesterday (Otto Vr., Locarno-Saldino, Villa Olga, Schweiz, Tessin.). —Hoboken4 is not coming in a week; an indisposition on his wife’s part interfered. It interested me that he wanted to see you here. That you aren’t coming I can understand; he, no. But probably it happened several weeks ago that Mrs. Hoboken had some kind of whim about the villa in Vienna, and that Mr. Hoboken summoned the architect from Vienna to Holland at his own expense, in order there to investigate this whim. That’s how it goes. But it is Art that has to suffer, even though it holds {recto} greater reward for him than all his money. Safe to say that we are all his “patrons,” but he, ever the Bohemian who dogs our tracks, ungratefully and obtusely thinks of only one thing: separation from his Dutch Gulden. We are supposed be money-patrons for him as well!

Most cordial greetings from both of us.
Yours,
[ sign’d: ] H. Schenker
