Handwritten letter from Schenker to Cotta, dated May 2, 1906 [ not in Schenker’s hand: ] [ in Schenker’s hand: ] Sehr geehrter Herr ! Handwritten letter from Schenker to Cotta, dated May 2, 1906 [ not in Schenker’s hand: ] [ in Schenker’s hand: ] Dear Sir, I have just telegraphed1 regarding your request,2 agreeing with your suggestion. It would be a good idea now to face the consequences of that in the remaining gatherings and maintain the numbering, especially where (as in, e.g., the last batches of proofs that I sent you) I have designated “144a” or “144b” and so forth. I hope it is not too late for this. With kind regards, © Translation Ian D. Bent 2005. |
COMMENTARY: FOOTNOTES: 1 presumably CA 20 of 9:50 am the same day. 2 There is no letter (original or carbon copy) surviving from Cotta to S between February 7 and May 31, and no record of any other communication. (Schenker did not use the telephone.) The “request” was perhaps communicated by a marking on a proof. SUMMARY: © Commentary, Footnotes, Summary Ian D. Bent 2005.
