Sehr geehrter Herr !

Ich habe es so kommen gesehen,1 konnte aber wegen einer vis major,2 der Erkrankung meiner Mutter, nichts dagegen machen. In 3–4 Tagen erhalten Sie aber ein stattliches Packet Fahnen zurück.

I saw it coming,1 but matters beyond my control—namely illness on the part of my mother—prevented my doing anything about it2. You will have a handsome package of galley-proofs back in 3–4 days’ time.
