Lieber Herr v. Cube!

Best thanks for your note of August 30.1 I am very glad that you have recovered from your illness – that, too, belongs to art, which demands a great deal of tension. I shall take active interest in your many beautiful hopes and prospects; may they reach fulfilment in rapid succession! Here it is still very hot, and in spite of this my Free Composition summons me. I send you my best greetings.

Yours,
[ sign’d: ] H Schenker

COMMENTARY:
Format: printed postcard, holograph addresses recto, holograph message verso
Sender address: Vienna III, Keilgasse 8
Recipient address: Kaiserswerth-Bockum a/Rhein, Pensionat "Hunenhof"

FOOTNOTES:

1 Cube’s letter of 30 August appears not to survive, and his previous letter speaks of artistic frustration without mentioning any illness. The lost letter presumably speaks of an improvement in both health and professional opportunities.

SUMMARY:
S acks note, sends best wishes, and refers to Der freie Satz.
