Lieber Herr v. Cube!

I received your letter this morning (Sunday),1 and even before 10 o’clock I had sent the reference you requested by express post to the address you indicated. I have [written] a reference that expressed extreme warmth, with pleasure and conviction, and I also sent a further letter to the recipient, in which I underscored the reference.2 On the basis of its contents, you ought to obtain the post; ultimately it will be a question of whether the executive committee will accord a reference from me the value that it deserves. If my name were known to the committee through newspaper references, then the matter would have already been resolved, so warmly did I write the reference. With best wishes and greetings from the two of us,

Yours,
[ sign’d: ] H[einrich] Sch[enker]
