Sehr geehrter Herr Direktor!

Dear Director,

Some friends of mine who are versed in questions of literary copyright and have examined the letter from UE to me of 19021 re: Ornamentation have just told me that it is strange that there is nothing in that letter about editions, numbers of copies, and such like, but that instead I am today at the mercy of UE because I have responded by agreeing. In this precarious situation, into which2 I was drawn, trusting wholly in the directors of UE {2} of that time, I accept your offer of yesterday of 150 Fl. as consisting
of .........................50 Fl. revised edition
and .......................100 Fl. as remuneration for the new work comprising 30 pages, much of it in small type!

If I have one request, it is that you please kindly send me the above payment before July 1, since I am leaving next week.3

{3} However, this experience makes it necessary for me to ask that with respect to the [ Instrumentation ] Table you provide me with something rather more precise in writing,4 as soon as you yourself have clarified the matter.

With kind regards,
Yours truly,
[ sign'd: ] H. Schenker
