Chapter 11 Objectives

After studying this chapter and completing the structured exercises in the module, you should be able to do the following.

  • Set standards on score continua for decisions on admissions, selection, assigning of marks, or determination of domain mastery (User Paths 1, 3, 5).
  • Describe philosophical and methodological issues related to assigning marks and establishing marking schemes (User Path 1).
  • Assign marks in User Path 1 using measures of relative position (norm-referenced marking) or preset standards (criterion-referenced marking).
  • Conduct domain-referenced mastery analyses in User Path 1 with data from classroom or standardized assessments.
  • Apply and evaluate methods for tracking achievement/behavior changes over time for individuals and groups (User Paths 1-2).
  • Interpret and use aggregated data summaries for needs assessments, planning, or summative evaluations of programs/services (User Paths 2-4, 6).
