Decision-Making Applications in User Paths 1-6

Marking requires teachers to compile results from multiple assessments to make summative evaluations of student performance over time. Marks can be assigned using criterion referenced or norm-referenced methods. For teachers who prefer a norm-referenced approach, the chapter illustrated procedures using T-scores and ogives. For those inclined towards a criterion-referenced marking scheme, the chapter presented a procedure using preset criteria based on weighted percent of the maximum possible score. The chapter recommended that the principles of accuracy, fairness, objectivity, and consistency be applied when we use assessment results to develop report card statements.
