Decision-Making Applications in User Paths 1-6

A domain-referenced analysis uses assessment data to diagnose specific strengths and weaknesses of students during or before instruction, or to make a summative judgment of their level of mastery of the achievement domain. To support a domain-referenced analysis, assessments must initially be designed with clear linkages between particular learning outcomes and assessment items/tasks. The teacher must also set standards or mastery criteria to determine a student’s mastery status. Domain-referenced analyses can be performed with data from both structured response and open-ended assessment tools. The chapter described procedures for individual and group analyses.
