Quantitative Evaluation of Validity and Reliability

The chapter demonstrated how to obtain and interpret four major types of reliability coefficients, tied to different sources of random error. These were the Parallel Forms, Test-Retest, Internal Consistency, and Inter-rater Reliability coefficients. The chapter demonstrated the method for setting Confidence Bands around scores using the SEM. The chapter reminded practitioners that different methods for obtaining reliability coefficients may yield different results, and that the results are likely to be group-dependent and tied to the number of items, observations, or work samples built into the assessment procedure.
