X. Purchasing Legal Materials
71. Purchasing American Law Books

Contrary to the rest of the world, law bookstores are relatively rare in the United States, although some exist. The William S. Hein Company in Buffalo, New York, is both a publisher and a good full service dealer in United States legal materials. They will sell both new and used books and will act as a periodical subscription agent for both domestic and foreign buyers.

Sales can often be arranged directly with the publisher via the phone, e-mail, or regular mail. The publishers are conscious of the need for speedy and accurate service and are prepared to be as helpful as possible. The best place to find contact information is the web page on legal publishers originally created by Rob Richards, of the University of Colorado Law Library, and now maintained by the American Association of Law Libraries' Committee on Relations with Information Vendors.
