Assignments

Class time and place: 8:40-9:50, Monday and Wednesday, 329 Pupin.

Problem sessions: Fridays from 2:00 to 3:30 pm in room 412 Pupin.

Degenerate perturbation theory

Midterm:

In class exam on Wednesday, October 31st
The exam is "closed book" but one 8.5"x11" sheet of formulae, written on both sides is permitted
The exam will cover all material up to and including angular momentum.
There will be a review session at 7:10 pm in room 325 Pupin on Monday, October 29th in which the practice exam and other review questions will be discussed.

Final

Exam will be held on Monday Dec 17 from 9:00-12:00 in room 214 Pupin
The exam is "closed book" but one 8.5"x11" sheet of formulae, written on both sides is permitted
The exam will cover all material up to and including the coupling of angular momentum.
There will be a review session at 7:00 pm in room 420 Pupin on Thursday, December 13th in which the practice exam and other review questions will be discussed.

Homework:

Problem sets will be distributed on this website on Wednesdays and will consist of 3-4 problems
They will be due the following Friday (nine days later).
Completed problem sets can be turned in during the problem session or put in the GR6037 box in the Department office.

Teaching assistant: The graders for the course are Bigeng Wang and Tianle Wang. Questions about the problems and grading can be directed to them as well as to Prof. Christ.

Grades: Grades will be determined from a weighted average of the homework (20%), the midterm exam (30%) and the final exam (50%).
