ABOUT

Welcome! My name is Rong Zhou and I was born in Beijing, China. I am currently pursing MS degree at Computer Science department at Columbia University. I obtained my undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan. My majors were Computer Science and Statistics.

PROJECTS

Web Platform: New York State Disease Prediction

This platform demo is a course project for EECS6893: Big Data Analytics. Our study seeks to identify the likelihood of having a disease and thus improve the public health through disease risk management. By incorporating machine learning techniques, we are able to predict most possible diseases for a given individual. The prediction can benefit many diverse users, including individual patients, health care organizations, insurance companies and policymakers.

Mobile App: MTrade

MTrade is a course project for EECS441: Mobile App Development for Entrepreneurs. I grouped up with two other students and designed MTrade, a mobile application for helping students find a match for class swapping in registration process. This application can be used on both iOS and Andriod platforms, and is written in html and Javascript

Learning Bayes Net Structures for Social Network Analysis

Learning social network structure is one of the important perspectives in social network analysis. Bayesian network as the most commonly used graphical model has been applied into different scenarios in social network analysis. However, due to large size of data sets, training a full Bayesian network can be challenging. Based on the SBNS algorithm, we proposed likelihood SBNS (lSBNS) algorithm using joint probability as scoring measurement in edge-screening step. lSBNS not only holds the properties of the original algorithm, but guarantees a faster searching process with relatively sparser final Bayesian network.

E2Coach for Statistics250

I worked as a Digital Educational Initiative staff at Digital, Education & Innovation Lab at the University of Michigan. My work is to develop and maintain the course website designed for students who are currently taking Statistics250 with instructor Dr. Brenda Gunderson, developer Ben Hayward and Behavior Scientist Holly Derry to provide personalized study guide and help build better experience for students.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCES

Statistical Reinforcement Learning Lab

I was a lab member at the Statistical Reinforcement Learning Lab at the University of Michigan from Sept 2015 to Apr 2016. My research interest was about Dynamic Treatment Regimes (DTR) and their policy-making.

My Research in Lab

In the lab, I worked on an independent research with my supervisor Professor Susan A Murphy and a PhD student Tianshuang Wu about comparing different policy-making methods for different senarios in two-stage DTRs.

UnBIASeD (Universal Bayesian Iteratively And Systematically Determined) p-scale project

I conducted a research with Dr. Aaron Wolf at the department of Earth and Environmental Science, University of Michigan. This research is about constructing a unified pressure scale for high pressure-temperature experiments.

fMRI (functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) project

I attended "Big Data Summer Institute", a summer program at Department of Biostatistics, the University of Michigan. I joined the Brain Imaging group and worked closely with five other team members and was under the supervision with professor Tim Johnson and Graduate student Zhuqing Liu. We used FSL to analyze and plot data. Our goal was to figure out if there was a huge activation difference in brain for human face recognition compare with other objects based on our data.
