Many new interesting discoveries in cylindrical (Penning) traps
- Absolute confinement and thermal equilibrium
- Vortex crystals
- Positron and antiproton traps
Toroidal traps have been considered in less detail
- The pure toroidal case has been studied to some degree, but nobody has looked at a stellarator-type configuration
- Theoretical predictions for equilibrium, stability and transport in a pure toroidal field exist but have not been confirmed in detail
- Previous experiments have had neutral pressures in the 10-7 Torr range
