- CNT confinement times are expected to be:
- 10-100 seconds in purely toroidal configuration
- Based on Crooks and OíNeilís theory: Poloidal rotation leads to oscillating parallel and perpendicular temperatures - collisions tend to equilibrate this, which dissipates energy.
- Longer in stellarator configuration - but not absolute
- Poloidal rotation can be transferred into toroidal rotation, which is much less damped (re. tokamak)
- Inevitable breaking of symmetry is on the order of _3 (Garren and Boozer, 1991) and will lead to some damping and therefore some radial diffusion -but we donít know how much.
- Since neutral interactions are negligible, this is a strict test of the theoretical predictions
