Relation to fusion science
Stellarator concept borrowed from fusion science
- Quasi-helical stellarator confines energetic particles very well if the quasi-helical symmetry is good
We can study strongly rotating toroidal plasmas
- Load CNT stellarator configuration with electrons, then ionize gas there to create non-neutral ion-electron plasmas
- ExB rotation and shear profoundly impact plasma confinement (H-modes, ITBís)
- Will be the stellarator equivalent of:
- Electric tokamak (Taylor et al. UCLA)
- Maryland Centrifugal Torus (Hassam et al., U. Maryland)
