Research Plan: Positron trapping
Start by demonstrating ability to confine energetic electrons
- No radioactivity
- Can inject low energy electrons from heated W wire by thermionic emission
- Use ECRH at 2.45 GHz (B=0.0875 T) to heat the electrons and confirm ability to confine 5 keV electrons
Develop methods of injecting high energy electrons
Then initiate positron program
- Deal with safety issues regarding radioactivity
- Use experience with electrons to develop efficient ways of loading the trap with positrons from Na-22 source
