Welcome
to ABSK, or Asian Baptist Student Koinonia.
We're a campus fellowship group committed to spreading the good
news of Christ throughout the Columbia community, and especially
getting to know fellow students who want to live the incredible
life found in Christ. "Koinonia" is a Greek word meaning
fellowship, which tells you the focus of our group - coming
to know and love the God who loves us, and loving those around
us in the same way.
ABSK
holds weekly bible studies, which take place in the Earl Hall Dodge Room each Friday at 7PM. Each week, you'll find
good food, great praise, and a thought-provoking message. You'll
also find students from all different walks of life. You don't
have to be Asian, and you don't have to be Baptist, or even
Christian - all you need is a student ID and a heart that seeks
something more than this ordinary life. Actually, even the ID
is optional.
In
the midst of the exciting and sometimes hectic college life,
maybe you're looking for a place where you can be yourself,
and find a listening ear. Maybe you've always wondered about
life, but didn't know how to begin asking your questions. Whatever
your background, you're welcome to come check us out. We think
you'll find what you're looking for -- and much, much more.
Our
weekly bible studies are only the beginning...some of the stuff
we do during the semester includes:
-
Retreats,
held each semester. We head to a retreat site hidden
away in the forests of upstate New York, where we
engage in intensive bible studies, small groups, and
have a lot of personal time with God.
-
events
with our fellow ABSK at NYU
-
small
groups and discipleship groups
-
study
sessions, held each week. This is for those of you
who actually think studying for Lit Hum, CC or G-Chem
in Butler is hardcore.
-
study
breaks = breaks from study. Examples include bowling,
stuffing ourselves silly, making fools of ourselves
in games that invariably involve hand motions, stuffing
ourselves silly, and whatever else we can think
of that fits in the category of fun.

The
first ABSK was founded in 1981 at UC Berkeley. Since that time,
ABSK's have
been founded at over twenty campuses across the nation, all sharing
a desire to come closer to God through one another.
