TUESDAY,  DEC.   31,   1901.
 

Routine work.

Temperature  to-day at   9,   12  and   5:45   o'clock,   36,   40  and
38 degrees  respectively.       Weather,   clear.

WKDireSDAY,   JANUARY 1,   1902.
 

(Holiday  )  V/alked over  the work from 14th St.   to  96th
St.        Pound   Section  3   the   only  one where  work WitS  going on;
this was principall':' concreted  but   some  excavated.

THURSDAY,   JANUARY 2,   1902.
 

Went with Carr over  Section 2  and  into  the West heading
at  34th St.       Discussed v/ith Carr and  Shaler  the  question of
footing for the  concrete wall.       Carr had. ordered  a base  of at
least  12  inches,  but  it w.is found difficult  to  excavate  the
rock  in the  extreme  corner  of the  floor  in   the   side wall.
Pointed  out  to  Shaler  that he would  obviate    he diffioluty by
putting  in a section of floor  so  as to  set  the  foundation out
from the  side wall.

Temperature   to-day at  9,   12:48  and  5:45  o'clock,   22,   30
and  30  degrees  -respectively.       Weather,   cloudy,   and  afterv/ards
clear.
