Biography
Emily is a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science focusing on comparative politics. She is currently a visiting Ph.D. scholar at the Department of Political Science at Aarhus University in Denmark while conducting dissertation research in Denmark and Sweden. Originally from Oregon, she lived and studied in France, Sweden and Denmark before coming to Columbia. While here, she has assisted with research on religion and international relations theory, and on public forms of Islam in contemporary Turkey and served as a teaching assistant in courses focused on ethnic politics and violence, nationalism and civil war. She holds an M.A. and M.Phil. in Political Science from Columbia, a Master of International Studies from Uppsala University in Sweden, and an undergraduate degree from Seattle Pacific University.
Teaching and research interests: Ethnic politics; nationalism; immigration, integration and citizenship policy; immigrant-minority civic identity and political participation; far-right parties in Europe; Muslim organizations' political engagement in Western Europe.
