Columbia University School of Social Work
Student Union: 2011-2012
Welcome to the Student Union Executive Board (SUEB) webpage!
What is the Student Union Executive Board?
The Student Union Executive Board (SUEB) consists of twenty-two positions, including President, Vice President, Treasurer, University Academic Senator, Special Events Coordinator, Assistant Special Events Coordinator, Secretary, Caucus Liaison and Communications and Outreach Coordinator. Also, there are Representatives for CUSSW student cohorts: Second Years, First Years, Dual Degrees, Reduced Residency Students, 16 Month Program Students, International Students, and Extended Program Students. A full contact list is posted on this page.
What is the function of SUEB?
SUEB serves students in three different areas:
1. Community Building: SUEB assists and co-sponsors student activities by supporting Student Organizations – aka “Caucuses” – such as the Black Caucus, the Social International Welfare Caucus, and the Feminist Caucus. There are over 20 Student Caucuses at CUSSW! A full listing is available on the CUSSW website. SUEB also helps students run projects that augment community building.
2. Advocacy: SUEB responds to student concerns that are brought to its attention. We can serve as an intermediary between students and administrators. For example, each semester SUEB surveys students in order to capitalize on assets and to identify weaknesses. The Academic Senator represents CUSSW on the Columbia University Academic Senate. SUEB selects student representatives for Curricular Committees and assist or collaborates in activities connected to the larger Columbia community.
3. Special Events: SUEB sponsors student events throughout the year. Some of these events include, but are not limited to: Self Care Day (Fall Semester), Community Day (Spring Semester) and the annual gala.
How can I be involved with SUEB?
Students are elected to each position by their peers and serve for the academic year. Feel free to contact your SUEB representative and/or attend an upcoming SUEB meeting! SUEB meetings are held every three weeks and are announced via e mail—all students are encouraged to attend! A full schedule and minutes from SUEB meetings are posted here as well.
