The
only marker on the alternate site is this tiny hut that shelters the heart-pillar
which is permanently buried in the ground, over which the future main sanctuary
will stand. It is perhaps one of the most moving and powerful symbols in
all Japanese culture of the fundamental belief in the cosmic importance
of ritual renewal.
