My name is Michael Nguyen.
I am currently a graduate student in Electrical Engineering at Columbia University working with Prof. John Wright. My research interests span the areas of machine learning, computation, and signal processing. In particular, I am interested in exploring the classes of real-world problems these mathematical models can solve along with their provable guarantees. Currently, I am exploring a biomedical imaging application of generative adversarial networks (GANs) under the modified Wasserstein distance.
Before pursuing my graduate studies, I was a researcher in the Air and Missile Defense sector at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab. I attended Cornell University as and undergraduate where I was fortunate to have worked with Prof. Tsuhan Chen at the Advanced Multimedia Processing Lab and with Prof. Gregory Fuchs at the Spin Dynamics Group.
