Training Sessions

Initially working in the ER could be confusing, but it does not have to be. To help our volunteers be more comfortable and effective we are beginning a directed training program. This will include a workshop series to be held on 5 different evenings during the semester, from 6:00-8:00pm. The meeting place is Muhlenberg 410. At these sessions you will learn many things about the ED, about working with the doctors, about medical emergencies, and about our research projects. This will enable you to understand the studies better and learn more. (read: You will be able to fully explain these studies and their significance to any interviewers who ask you about them in the future).

Occassionally these evenings will include workshops showing you how to perform endotracheal intubation, or start IV lines, or read EKGs. This will be for your edification only, of course, (no real patients, and no using these skills in the ED), but it will help you understand our studies better and get better at your job.

All AAs must attend 5 of these in order to get full credit for the semester or, if not in the class, to be eligible for a letter of recommendation from Drs. Quaas and Bania.
