Important dates/information
Important information about practice in Barnard LeFrak Gym.
1. There will be a Barnard College activity supervisor stationed in the gym for the duration of practice. This supervisor will check IDs and enforce the dress code.
2. You must have a current CU ID! The supervisor will check for this.
Not only must it be current, it also must have a sticker on it that says FA 07. Please go to 204 Kent Hall at Columbia to get your sticker. See
http://www.columbia.edu/hr/printable/wacguide/safety/university-id/index.html
Getting a sticker is called ID validation.
3. If you don't have a validated ID, you will probably be denied access to the gym by the Barnard supervisor.
4. You must come to the Barnard Gym in workout clothing: proper, non-marking sneakers, t-shirt, shorts or sweatpants. You can change in the bathroom or locker rooms, but you cannot change inside the gym. If you are not properly dressed, you will probably be denied entrance into the gym by the supervisor.
5. Don't argue with the supervisor. She'll call security.
Please complete the following two things as soon as possible.
1) Add your name to the club roster (sign at Monday practice or email the President Pengfei Gao if you have not yet attended a practice)
2) Provide a photocopy of your CU ID. (if you are a student it should have the FA 07 sticker; if you are an officer or staff Barnard wants to see a Dodge access sticker on the ID). Contact Pengfei by email to send a scanned copy, or to schedule a time to give a photocopy in person.
About the Badminton Club
The Columbia Badminton Club is open to Columbia students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni and family members . We try to mix players of all levels in evenly matched games so that everyone can learn. Club racquets are provided for those who don’t have their own, and feather birds for the whole club. Coaching is informal, and many players are open to give tips and do drills as part of warming-up. There are some tournaments, but most of the competition is among the members, game by game. We have graduate students, undergrads, staff, and alumni from many countries and academic fields, and for many of them the club becomes a regular social activity.
See Club Rules in details.
Membership Dues
Membership fees will be $35 per semester. Please hand in your dues to our president Pengfei on your first practice. Membership fees will be $20 if you join the club after spring break. A person may visit only once and then must pay dues to play. Also note that members who repeatedly claim that they have not brought enough money for dues may be denied access to the gym.
