| The Gibney group is using the ferredoxin maquettes, simple sixteen amino acid synthetic iron-sulfur proteins, to study natural [4Fe-4S] protein engineering and function. The ferredoxin maquette, model shown in Figure, is a novel aqueous soluble and stable peptide ligand based coordination compound that uniquely provides for rigorous constructive tests of our understanding of [4Fe-4S] protein structure and function. Our current goal is to provide the fundamental understanding of [4Fe-4S] protein structure-function relationships necessary to design de novo metalloproteins with predictable and tunable properties. |
