Chemical structure and reactivity establishes biological function. As bioinorganic chemists, we are designing protein ligands to test the fundamental engineering principles of metalloproteins in a constructive manner. The Gibney group employs de novo protein design coupled with full chemical and biophysical characterization to address fundamental coordination chemistry issues of metal cofactor assembly, stability and biochemical function in peptide and protein ligands.
