Mission

The purpose for the Columbia University Gospel Choir is to rejoice in the name of God through song as well as minister to the Columbia community. We are a Christian ministry dedicated to spreading the Gospel. We seek to lead others to the wonderful love and grace of Jesus Christ. The Gospel Choir relays the message of the Gospel through musical performances throughout the year. We meet to fellowship and sing praises to God.

History

Students at Columbia University and Barnard College tried for several years to establish a long standing gospel choir during the 1970s-80s. In 1994, the Lord rejuvenated the choir under "Dee", and a new director Vandalyn Kennedy, with a group of 12 students. Students from Columbia, Barnard, several graduate schools, staff and young people from all over the city joined the music ministry of the Barnard/Columbia Gospel Choir.

We have two annual concerts, minister at schools, ceremonies, churches and corporations throughout the tri-state area. We are thankful that the Lord continues to work in us, on us and through us to minister to the needs of disciples in the choir, and students all over the campus.
