Marissa Oliver:- What is the idea of the yellow line in the project? What forces the line into these areas, this configuration?
Mike Webb:- 5th Avenue idea seems very relevant/ extension idea good for Harlem/ only one kind of 5th Avenue now. The problem is one of density and restraints (on the yellow line). The allocation of the elements was program elements was problematic, how did these new resources relate to %th Ave? the distribution of energy and bombast was everywhere in contrast to concentration on Times Square or 42nd Street, limited resources maximized.
Mark Robbins:- There are two concentrations/lobes of energy on either side of 5th Ave in proposal, these act as magnets or draws, pulling yellow line, purple line , pink lines into position. Explaining how they get made. Irene Latek:- The proposal had very different formal qualities than the modernist housing blocks; it could be seen as a critique of the free plan layout of the modernist housing blocks, it could also be seen as continuing the experiment of these blocks (ie no return to grid. It was idea, intering but may not work.
Mark Robbins:- The gestures were too arbitrary and not developed enough.
Brian Mc Grath:- zig-zag linking subway stations through housing. Joan:- Lines as vector diagrams of desire, linked on a spatial level to Russian Constructivists, Decon and Corb. Color code not at all clear.
Marissa Oliver:- Color code is strange, 5th Avenue and La Marquetta give clues as to line reasoning but doesn't link up/carry through. How does yellow line impact and join to linear structure of La Marquetta?
Mike Webb:- Need to show how line would work with housing units and stairtower inside it, as it is now looks like a fragment of the transportation infrastructure system (a bridge approach or elevated subway viaduct) invading the domestic space and scale ...yellow line transportation infrastructure system (a bridge approach or elevated subway viaduct) invading the domestic space and scale ...yellow line scale very different than scale of housing and domesticity.
