The Tenants' Rights Project is a student-run organization at the Columbia University School of Law. We work with public interest attorneys from the West Side SRO Law Project at the Goddard Riverside Community Center. Together, we help low-income tenants in New York City fight abusive and delinquent landlords. See "Activities" for more on what we do.
The TRP Executive Board is here to help you succeed with your cases! See the Resources page for our TRP Manual, links to useful sites, and other information for volunteers. If you are a tenant in need of assistance, please see this page.
Congratulations to Pouya Bavafa, Thalia Julme, Mina Nasseri, and Katie Regan! They have been selected as the co-chairs of the Tenants' Rights Project for the 2008-2009 academic year from a huge pool of excellent applications. They each have extensive involvement with TRP and also bring greater experiences in public interest work to the group. See the Board Members page.
The Tenants's Rights Project is one of the few organizations where law students (including 1Ls and LLMs) can get real client contact and court room exposure while serving the public interest. As a TRP Volunteer, you'll work with another volunteer, an attorney from the SRO Law Project, and a member of TRP's Executive Board. You'll make a site visit, prepare legal documents for filing, conduct a client meeting, and ultimately see the case through New York City's Housing Part Court.
The Activities section of this website has a detailed description of what volunteers do. For even further information, check out our PDF Flyer, Frequently Asked Questions flyer, and volunteer application.
We already have the maximum number of volunteers we can handle this year. If you are interested in participating next year, please email us.
