LibraryWeb E-Journals Listings
Q. If a particular ejournal isn't listed in the E-Journal Title List does that mean
Columbia doesn't provide access to it?
A. Not necessarily. Before you give up, try the E-Journal Quick Search feature (available on the
left sidebar on this page and elswhere) using either title or subject keywords. If still no luck, try CLIO's more advanced searching
capabilities. Further guidance is also available in the "Locating Books & Articles" document on
LibraryWeb.
Q. Why are there sometimes duplicate citations for the same e-journal title?
A. Columbia Libraries subscribe not only to publishers' collections of ejournals but also to databases
that include the full text of ejournals. Often these collections and databases will carry at least some of the same titles. Because the
years of journal coverage may differ from one version to another, as do the search, retrieval and display capabilities offered, it was considered
best to list the full set of access options available to Columbia users.
Q. Why do only some of the ejournal entries provide detailed information about the years of
coverage included?
A. Columbia subscribes to an external vendor service that provides this information. This service is
gradually increasing the number of titles it can supply coverage information for, and we will include that additional information as it becomes
available.
Q. What is the "Bookmark as:" link in each citation for?
A. If you want to create a local bookmark or favorites listing for a particular ejournal, you should save the
URL shown after Bookmark as. This locally generated "persistent" link (or URN) will often remain stable over a longer period of
time than a publisher's own link will. In addition, using this link ensures that when you connect from off-campus, you will be identified
and authorized as a Columbia user for those licensed services that require this.
NB: Most browsers allow you to 'right-click' on a URL link like this one and then save it as a bookmark / favorite or copy it as a
"shortcut."
