File-naming spec for APIS images. 6/8/98 (Superseded)

Files will have several components separated by periods. Most components are optional. The general form is:

project . item . f/b . x-y . res

where

project
is always "apis"
item
is the apis number starting with a "p" (papyrus) or an "o" (ostrakon) and followed by the number with no leading zeros, e.g., p34
f/b
is "f" or "b", and specifies front or back of a document. it may be omitted if there is no ambiguity.
x-y
indicates a segment of a document in a grid of maximum size 10x10. coordinates start at 0-0 at the left-top, e.g., 1-2 is the second column and third row. there is no implied scale: the coordinates are used only to indicate placement. it may be omitted if there is no segmentation.
res
is the resolution in dpi, e.g., "600". resolution may be omitted when the image is for convenience rather than archive, for example for a shot of the whole document when there are also multiple segment images.

Examples:

apis.p5.f.0-0.600
apis.p5.f.0-1.600
apis.p5.f.0-2.600
the front of a long vertical piece
apis.o883.600
apis.o883.150
apis.o883.72
a small piece at several resolutions
apis.p8.0-0.150
apis.p8.1-0.150
apis.p8.2-0.150
apis.p8
a one-sided wide piece and a single image containing the entire piece
