APIS Institution / Repository Codes

Two fields in the APIS contribution format include institution codes, namely dd035 and dd852.  The institution codes to be used for APIS are those listed in the MARC Code List for Organizations, which is available in print from the Library of Congress or online at: http://www.loc.gov/marc/organizations/.

Below are details and examples.


  • dd035 (System Control Number)

    The dd035 field follows the usage and structure of the MARC 035 subfield $a, as described at: http://lcweb.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/ecbdnumb.html#mrcb035

    In particular, note that the institution code is enclosed in parentheses ahead of the contributing institution's record control number.

  • dd852 (Location / Repository)

    The dd852 field follows the usage and structure of the MARC 852 field $a, as described at: http://lcweb.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/ecbdhold.html#mrcb852.
