2008. LWEB's
presentation
of E-Resources
(ejournals
and databases)
is created
by extracting,
reformatting
and indexing
MARC catalog
records
from our
Library
management
system (Voyager
/ CLIO).
Lucene
and Java
/ JSP are
used
for searching
and the
creation
of browse
lists.
Both
the ejournal and
databases applications
include subject
browsing and searching
output based on Columbia
University Libraries'
HILCC application. For
the ejournal interface,
HILCC is used
to generate a
browsable
list of subject
categories as well as an A-Z
list of topical
subjects for
the ejournals
site.
Access
to Databases by
Resource Type
(e.g., dictionaries,
directories, music
scores) is done
based on corresponding
codes entered
into local fields
of the catalog
record, that are
used for Web sorting
and display. Details
of the special
cataloging procedures
developed for
E-Resource display
are available
in the Electronic
Resources Cataloging
Manual sec. 100.
Selectors and reference
librarians, as well
as the Electronic
Resource Coordinator,
may recommend that
catalogers add specific
keywords or variant
titles to catalog
records to enhance
retrieval.
