English language CIP produced by the National Library of Canada can be completed and used. English language Canadian CIP can be recognized by the encoding level 8, and in addition the 040 will have a Canadian library (symbol beginning with Ca) in the subfield a, the code for English in the subfield b, and the National Library of Canada in the subfield c.
Example:
040: :$a CaOTU $b eng $c NLC
Note: if the 040 subfield b has fre instead of eng, it is French language CIP and is not standard copy. Do not use any Canadian CIP that has fre in the 040 $b.
Canadian CIP will have a 263 with the projected publication date like its American counterpart. However, instead of missing just the physical description from the 300 field, the entire 300 will be lacking.
