the War and it was pretty tough. We were at a dinky little
hotel. Everytime I go down there I ride by it and look at
it because it brings back such pleasant memories. The big
hotels had been taken over by the Air Force.
Was your wife always...? I often find that the wives
of many authors complain when they go off to the typewriter
and write a lot and...
I never went to the typewriter because I never
learned to type.
Phyllis has been wonderful about it. She is very
understanding. The only time she gets angry is when I spend
whole days watching football or hockey games on television
and putter around the house. I love to putter around the
house, and sometimes she grumbles about “a disappearing
husband.” Usually she is doing things herself; but when
once in awhile she has nothing to do and I'm puttering
around, she gets very annoyed. But that usually doesn't
last more than an hour.
Oh, we're all this way.
