the War and it was pretty tough. We were at a dinky little hotel. Everytime I go down there I ride by it and look at it because it brings back such pleasant memories. The big hotels had been taken over by the Air Force.

Q:

Was your wife always...? I often find that the wives of many authors complain when they go off to the typewriter and write a lot and...

Cerf:

I never went to the typewriter because I never learned to type.

Q:

I mean...

Cerf:

Phyllis has been wonderful about it. She is very understanding. The only time she gets angry is when I spend whole days watching football or hockey games on television and putter around the house. I love to putter around the house, and sometimes she grumbles about “a disappearing husband.” Usually she is doing things herself; but when once in awhile she has nothing to do and I'm puttering around, she gets very annoyed. But that usually doesn't last more than an hour.

Q:

Oh, we're all this way.

Cerf:

The reason I mention it is that it happened
