Yes. We went through the Democratic Headquarters. I had to get permission from the national Democratic Party. Of course, Adlai remembered me from Alicia's and this episode with the contribution for Governor.

So we rushed this book out, and it was run because we were rooting whole-souledly for Adlai. Everybody in publishing was for Adlai Stevenson...not that that did much good.

I remember that two years ago I became chairman of the Peabody Committee. I'll tell you about that in a minute. It gives away television and radio awards every year. In the course of the Peabody luncheon we gave an award to Newton Minow. Mr. Newton Minow at this time was the head of the ...I've forgotten what they call it.

Q:

Not the FCC, but something like that. I know what you mean.

Cerf:

He's the man who said that television was becoming a great wasteland. Do you remember? How right he was, and we gave him an award for service to the television industry. He was well-known by this time. I said to him, “I've admired you for a long time, Mr. Minow, and I'm very glad to meet you.” He said, “What are you talking about? We met before.” I said, “We did?" He said, “Yes, don't you remember when you did the Stevenson speeches and there was an eager young man in your office about sixteen hours a day getting the thing rushed out? That was I.” Minow was just a kid out of college in 1952 and was working on those speeches for us. I didn't remember him from Adam.
