than for content and consist of a lot of the plates that they've already used in Life but they're learning, and with a firm that's as smart as that... This is a great outfit.

Q:

Do you think that they will control Little, Brown in a way that RCA doesn't control Random House?

Cerf:

Yes, because they're in the publishing business. RCA is not in the publishing business. Nobody at RCA knows a thing about publishing. Nor are they interested in trade book publishing. For us this was the beauty of the merger.

The reason for the RCA-Random House merger is this. RCA is building now great big teaching machines. Their computers are being devoted to some extent to education, and they are being tested already in Palo Alto and Texas. There is one being stored in New York City now.

Q:

It was in The Saturday Review.

Cerf:

This is a very, very important development. We had working with us Mr. Pat Suppes, whom I've told you about, from Stanford. RCA wanted him desperately. Suppes is one of the experts in this burgeoning teaching machine field.

Q:

Well, in new math.

Cerf:

In new math, yes. He's a genius. He was leaning toward
