Harlem came down and broke the fence down and threatened the workers with knives.

Q:

Is this on the Fifth Avenue corner?

Lasker:

No, but it's near the Fifth Avenue corner, on the main drive that goes through the Park, and as you know there's a little spot where it comes near to the water of the Harlem Meer at 110th Street, you know, this big lake up there. Well, this is to be built into the lake so that it won't take up any ground of the park at all. It will become a skating rink and swimming pool as part of the lake, but under controlled water conditions, and it will have dressing rooms and small food facilities. It will be very pretty.

Well, this I consider part of our general effort to improve New York, although it really is the effort of my sister-in-law. I influenced her and helped to get it going because she really wasn't well enough to have made it happen if I hadn't worked on it. My brother-in-law has designed it, and Mrs. Hoffman has helped in getting the city involved in it and coming through about it. Naturally, Mr. Newbold Morris hates the idea.

Q:

How many people will it accommodate?

Lasker:

It can take care of 3,000 skaters or swimmers at a time.
