Part:         Session:         Page of 1143

it's extremely entertaining. In the meantime, the main point of it is to remind people that they should plant trees. And, of course, the Park Department is very embittered because maybe they've had to plant a couple of thousand extra trees as a result of apartment houses and individuals declaring that they would pay for trees if they could be planted. And this is extremely irritating to them.

Q:

Does the press and radio and television--do they aid in this effort?

Lasker:

They help, but we don't make enough appeals about tree planting, I think. I think if I gave more time to it I could push the selling much harder, but I haven't given the time or money it deserves to make it a very major thing.

Q:

A station like WQXR would be most invaluable, I think.

Lasker:

I think so, too. Yes, I think we should have a good tape for them; I think you're right. But if we get the second five thousand trees planted in the city this fall, I'll be very happy. This will be due to the influence of Mrs. Hoffman, not to mine because I don't know the mechanics of the city budget as well as I know the Federal budget.

That's beautification.
