Do you know Weinberger?

Lasker:

No, but I'll have to get to know him somehow.

Q:

I think you will.

Lasker:

Well, on the 19th of December, I met with Dr. Theadare Cooper and Dr. Mary McLaughlin in New York City and the helath officer of New York City on and the New York City High Blood Pressure Treatment Program. Actually, they are trying to take blood pressure people in their TB and venereal disease clinic and refer them to treatment. They're having a hard time because they don't have the cooperation of New York City hospitals to treat their clinic patients for high blood pressure.

Q:

You mean they're doubling up, bringing high blood pressure into the VD clinics?

Lasker:

All they have to do is take their pressure, takes a minute and a half, you know. But they haven't any really good way of getting them treated because the hospitals haven't agreed to treat people that they refer. Isn't that outrageous?

Q:

No coordination.

Lasker:

It's crazy. They were seeking funds from Dr. Cooper to expand this program, and if they put it interms of a reseach program maybe they'll get something. But they'll certainly have to get the
